Giganten

Giants tells the story of two friends who become rivals in an eternal competition for the largest structure in the world. It is the drama of two competitors who turn into enemies in the contest for a woman. One is the coolly calculating visionary and engineer Gustave Eiffel, the brilliant iron magician who built the Eiffel Tower; the other is the sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi, a passionate artist obsessed with the idea of creating a female Colossus of Rhodes and who erected the Statue of Liberty. Between the two men stands a young woman who must choose between reason and heart, between financial security and a life as a bohemian. Claude Cuenis' novel is a historical fiction that takes us on a spectacular journey through the second half of the 19th century. It is an era of acceleration, of railways, of telegraphs.
