On May 10, 2005, at 9:06 PM, a negotiation began on the north side of the Pont de la Machine, that small iron bridge that effectively separates Lake Geneva from the Rhône, concerning the fate of thousands of people. A breakdown, the failure of the talks would have been equivalent to a catastrophe. It was about information that had fallen into the wrong hands and that could under no circumstances be made public. Thomas Müller felt secure. He was trained to conduct such discussions and was tasked with retrieving the data, armed with almost unlimited authority. However, the longer he spoke, the more he realized that his arguments were beginning to dissolve into thin air, and he was negotiating against himself. He started to abandon his positions, forgot his training, and failed in his arrogant greed to succeed.
