Abstract: For elderly people in need of care in care institutions, there is a risk of becoming victims of violence by caregivers. The risk is particularly high for those suffering from dementia and for residents with challenging behaviour. The nursing staff themselves often do not perceive this as violence, but as an unavoidable measure to ensure that care is provided. The reasons for violent action are predominantly stress, particularly high workloads.
