Atticus O'Sullivan is on the hit list of all thunder gods. To escape their wrath, the druid makes a deal with Coyote, the trickster god of the Navajo. In return, Coyote only asks for a tiny little favor - on his honor. Coyote helps Atticus fake his own death and then go into hiding. It doesn't take long for Atticus to realize that the cunning god has pulled a fast one on him. Instead of enjoying his newfound freedom with his apprentice Granuaile and his dog Oberon, he is now doomed to fight bloodthirsty shapeshifters in Colorado. If Atticus ever makes it out of this alive, he vows never to be outsmarted again. But betrayal looms from all sides - even from within his own ranks.
