Berlin, 1992: It is only as a young woman that Ingke learns she was adopted as an infant during GDR times. Who are her real parents? Why did they give her away? And what does this mean for her life today? She embarks on a search and uncovers the story of her birth family, who lost their daughter after a failed escape attempt. Suddenly, the young woman has two families vying for her: her biological mother, who was eventually bought free from the GDR and knows nothing of Ingke's whereabouts, and her adoptive parents, with whom she grew up in a loving and protective environment. But does she really have to choose?
