Gisela Erdin presents the latest findings on Facilitated Communication with non-speaking people. In an empirical study, she investigates the effects of facilitated communication on people who were previously unable to communicate linguistically. She focuses on their behaviour and finds significant changes on the somatic level as well as an improvement in sensory perception and cognitive understanding. She illustrates these results with four vignettes. In this way, the author not only succeeds in showing new explanations of how AAC works, she also encourages all those who accompany people with a severe communication disorder.
