English. Hauntingly beautiful stories have existed since humans began to tell tales. This collection features narratives from two centuries. Alice and Claude Askew - Aylmer Vance and the Vampire (1914), Christian Heinrich Spiess - The Ghost Seer of the Fifteenth Century or Idea of Power over Spirits (1797), Max Brod - A Ghost Story (1916), Karl Philipp Moritz: Fragments from the Diary of a Ghost Seer (1787), Peter Baum - The Ghost Seer (1894).

With the stories presented here, we take a look back to the year 1787 and conclude in 1916. With the exception of the author couple Askew, only German authors are represented. Unfortunately, this is worth noting, as female authors often have a different perspective than their male counterparts. The oldest story in this short story collection dates back to 1785, while the most recent story is from 1916.

The narratives here are far removed from the cliché of rattling chains and ghost stories set in old castles or dark crypts. Instead, they provide an impression of the events that leave spirits and phantoms behind. Generations of people have grown up with these tales. To ensure they are not forgotten, this compilation has been newly published. Naturally, the best way to enjoy these stories is by the flickering glow of a fireplace with a good glass of alcohol, to feel the warmth both inside and out as goosebumps slowly run up and down your spine. As a small homage to the old written language, the texts have been left in their original form, with only minor and very careful edits.
