Geschichtsunterricht in einer europäischen Grenzregion

The study on the "current state" of history teaching in the final classes of German-speaking secondary schools in South Tyrol provides an insight into the complexity of history teaching in a European border region. Despite autonomous powers, the South Tyrolean school administration must adhere to the directives from Rome, especially in the design of the framework guidelines. This can always lead to complications, especially in the politically explosive subject of history. The presentation and analysis of history teaching, from its planning and implementation to its evaluation for the state final examination, illustrates how complex and sometimes even contradictory the everyday teaching of history is in German-speaking schools in Italy.
