Product details

The Benedictine monastery Stift Melk is located in Lower Austria near the town of Melk on the banks of the Danube. The current (Baroque) structure was built between 1702 and 1746 by Jakob Prandtauer. However, its origins date back to Roman times. The author, Aemilian Janitsch, describes in this wonderful book from 1819 the history of the well-known and noteworthy Benedictine Abbey of Melk from its beginnings to the state we can still visit today. The Verlag der Wissenschaften publishes historical literature by both well-known and lesser-known scholarly authors, making previously out-of-print works accessible to interested readers. This book is an unaltered reprint of the original historical edition.
