Geschichte der Liturgie

In two volumes, a detailed account of the history of the Christian liturgy of the West is available, which has emerged from research in liturgical studies in recent times. Volume 2 deals with modernity and the present. In addition to the Roman Catholic liturgy, internationally renowned scholars take a look at the liturgies of Lutherans and Reformed, Anglicans and Old Catholics. The focus is on the German-speaking area and Europe. The liturgical history of the young churches is traced using Brazil as an example. The development of the theology of worship as well as the genesis and development of the rites and the world of signs are placed in the respective contemporary cultural, ecclesiastical and social horizons. The processes of the various liturgies are described, forms of piety are traced, and the theology and spirituality of worship are explained.
