Gertrudas Versprechen

Vilnius 1939. The Catholic Gertruda is the nanny of little Michael, the son of the wealthy Jewish family Stolowitzky from Warsaw. Together with mother and son, she has fled from the German troops to Lithuania, while the boy's father remains in Paris, which is unreachable for the Jewish family. Shortly after arriving in exile, Michael's mother is on her deathbed. On her deathbed, Gertruda vows to her that she will safely bring the child to Israel. But then Germany occupies Lithuania as well, and both find themselves in danger of their lives. Despite great hardships, Gertruda manages to fulfill her promise. After a dramatic journey on the famous Exodus, they find a new home in Israel. Gertruda is honored as one of the "Righteous Among the Nations.".
