Gerhard Borrmann (April 30, 1908 - April 12, 2006) was a German physicist. He was born in Diedenhofen, which was then part of Germany, and received his early education there. He attended secondary school in Giessen, where he completed an apprenticeship in a steelworks. After studying at the Technical University of Munich and the Technical University of Danzig, he wrote his doctoral thesis on the Kossel effect while working in Walther Kossel's laboratory in Danzig. After obtaining his doctorate, he continued his work in the laboratory as Kossel's assistant, where he investigated X-ray transmission through thin crystal films.
