"Night", "Day" and "Twilight" are the titles of the three lectures that Silke Scheuermann is giving as a guest lecturer at the renowned "Frankfurt Poetics Lectures" in the winter semester 2017/18 and which can be read like narratives. In them, she reports on her everyday work and her reading, tells what the night has to do with poetry and the day with prose, weaves in memories of the beginnings of writing and encounters with admired poets, and describes the difficulties and moments of happiness in writing the most recently published novel.
In exploring the manifold relationships between writing and life, the languages of everyday life, science, art, and poetry, as well as the limits and possibilities of consciousness, one learns not only "What Mrs. Dalloway Thought Too" and why it is appealing, as an adult woman, to write a book from the perspective of a young boy. After reading it, you also know why it's easy to fail at depicting a swift's world of experience from its perspective, why some steppe animals have stripes - and that it's very possible for zebras to dream of checkered lions.
