Let's be honest: Most of us find insects - butterflies being the exception - mostly annoying. We think of stinky bugs and wasps ruining our food, easily forgetting how important these six-legged creatures are. Without insects, which make up the most diverse animal class in the world, we could hardly survive. Diligent bees and speedy beetles provide us with fruits and vegetables, and even jeans, by pollinating strawberry or cotton plants. They are part of our planet's waste management system and serve as food for countless species. Last but not least, they leave us in awe: Many appear like beings from another world, vibrant and beautiful. In short, there are a thousand good reasons to admire insects.
