Product details

In ancient times, the Danube bordered the Roman Empire. Later, the river became the lifeline of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until the Iron Curtain separated countries and ended the economic and cultural connections until 1989. The changeful history of the countries along the Danube cycle route between Vienna and Bratislava can be seen in cities like Bratislava, Györ, and Esztergom, as well as at the Roman excavations in Petronell-Carnuntum. Cycling tourists can look forward to excellent cycling paths on the dykes that line the Danube, leading them through its floodplains. The Danube's Bend near Visegrád is also scenic, where the river turns south towards the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
