Genomsequenzierung mittels Ion Torrent PGM-Plattform

The decomposition of dead biomass is an essential task in nature and forms the basis for new nutrient resources. In addition to bacteria, fungi are considered important decomposers in the ecosystem. The breakdown of wood in temperate forests is primarily carried out by basidiomycetes. This study sequenced and annotated the genome of the wood-decomposing basidiomycete Mycena epipterygia. To characterize the mechanism of enzymatic degradation of wood material, this work focused on the identification of selected secretory proteins, particularly ligninolytic enzymes. These data are significant for medical and therapeutic research areas, in environmental biotechnology for the ecological remediation of pollution, or for the production of biofuels. The genome of M. epipterygia was investigated for the first time in this study. Current bioinformatics software was used to analyze the genomic data, and the results were compared using international databases with selected fungi.
