Children are similar to their parents in many ways. This is not a new insight, but how is it actually possible? This book provides insight into the structure and function of the genetic material and how it is passed on to the offspring. It describes the classical rules of heredity and shows how the genetic material is recombined during reproduction and what can change with mutations. It deals with heredity and hereditary diseases in humans and explains how genetic information can be stored in cells and used to control life functions. Finally, it describes the methods of modern genetic engineering and discusses possible applications.

The book is oriented towards the learning content of biology as the basic subject of the Swiss Matura according to the Matura Recognition Regulations (MAR). It contains numerous colour illustrations, detailed learning objectives, summaries and a wealth of tasks with commented solutions, as well as a comprehensive glossary and an overall summary at the end.

"Genetics" is primarily aimed at graduates of Matura schools and schools for medical training. It can be used in class, but is also suitable for self-study, for example as sound preparation for university or university of applied sciences.
