Feminism is one of the most successful social movements in recent history. Its latest form is called gender feminism, and the field of research associated with it is called gender studies. "Gender", in contrast to biological sex, means social sex. For gender studies, "gender" is the most important social category and thus the central object of research. Its triumphal march in science seems to be unstoppable. There are professorships and institutes for gender studies at almost every German university. However, the influence of gender studies does not only extend to academia, but to all relevant areas of society. But how did the unprecedented rise of gender studies come about?
