Monastic works are impressive testimonies of religious feeling, thinking, and experience. With deep piety and great craftsmanship, they were primarily created in women's monasteries. Monastic works are delicate curling and cutting techniques made from paper, often enhanced by embroidery. They form precious reliquary frames, altar panels, or adorned wax figures. This volume presents nearly all types of monastic works, along with the materials used and the techniques applied, illustrated through images, drawings, and text. The examples shown here were all created by Martha Sailer in Lauterbach, district of Dillingen an der Donau. With admirable skill and a deep understanding, she not only replicated old monastic works but also creatively designed new artworks that remain connected to tradition. Martha Sailer (1940-2008) was a master of religious small art.
