Product details
Giuseppe Ungaretti, born in Alexandria in 1888, is the Archipoet, the patriarch of modern Italian poetry. He has been called a hermetic poet; however, this label, invented to explain his work, has rather obscured it. To us today, it appears in radiant clarity as a riddle that needs no solution. Ungaretti is unencumbered by anything; this freedom is what makes his poetry an "apparent secret": terse, unambiguous, beautiful like a pebble.
