The young Durs Grünbein began his literary career with two extremely successful poetry books in the short time between the "Wende" and German reunification. Grauzone morgens, a first collection of poems, arranged by Heiner Müller for Suhrkamp Verlag, reads today as a historical document: the last lyrical protocol from the declining socialist empire. Skull Base Lesson continued the investigation: from the experience of language decay and big-city loneliness, of ideology destruction and dissolution of the subject, she created the megametaphor Brain and documented the impact in the radically changed reality of a newly formed state as a moment of shock and a break in a continuum. Finally, Wrinkles and Traps allowed the poet to pause and take stock of the new (Western) everyday life and led the search for orientation via nat.
