In Berlin in the late 1920s, Irma Weckmüller works as a saleswoman at KaDeWe and supports herself and her sister Martha. However, Irma's life changes fundamentally when she meets the charming doctor Erich Bragenheim. She is immediately drawn to him and can hardly believe her luck when Erich reciprocates her feelings. A deep and intimate love develops between them. But with the rise of National Socialism, they soon find themselves in great danger, as Erich is Jewish. After the war: Irma is alone. Erich was murdered by the Nazis. At that time, they were denied the opportunity to marry. Determined, Irma fights to assert her - and Erich's - will.
