Gaschromatographie - Massenspektrometrie (GC-MS) in der organischen Geochemie

This study examined two crude oil samples to highlight the difference between biologically degraded (Velebit) and non-degraded (Kikinda) oil. The two samples originate from the Velebit oil and gas field and the Kikinda oil and gas field, which are two of the largest oil and gas reservoirs in the Serbian part of the Pannonian Basin. In the experimental part of this work, the two crude oil samples were separated using column chromatography. The saturated hydrocarbons were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry instruments. Based on the frequency and distribution of biomarkers, it was determined that the distribution in both samples is typical for crude oil, with a difference in the distribution of n-alkanes. The GC-MS chromatogram of the n-alkanes and isoprenoids from the saturated fraction isolated from the Velebit crude oil shows the typical distribution of oils that have been altered by biological degradation.
