Gärten und ihre Gäste

Gardens and parks are the trendsetters of the future. As places of deceleration, as counter-worlds of tranquility and meaning, gardens and parks are the new old longing spots for stressed city dwellers. Despite this enduring fascination, German-speaking tourism research has largely neglected the topic of garden tourism. This anthology provides important foundational research: the phenomenon is examined for the first time in an interdisciplinary and comprehensive manner as a form of slow tourism. In the 25 interdisciplinary contributions, the garden is not only viewed as a place of relaxation but is also explored in its tourist, economic, and, not least, social dimensions: How can the preservation and contemporary use of historical parks be reconciled? How does garden tourism become a driving force in the value creation chain of a region? This volume discusses these and other questions vividly and consistently seeks to bridge the gap between science and practice through practical examples.
