Business administration has evolved over the years into a discipline of management. This management discipline focuses on the leadership of individual companies. Economic and political developments in Eastern and Western Europe, as well as globalization efforts, are clearly leading to an increase in corporate mergers. Mergers of legally independent entities—conglomerates—create their own organizational forms with various business management design options. They impose not only large-scale but also fundamentally different and new requirements on management. The leadership of legally independent entities particularly necessitates a division of labor between the management of the parent company and the management of the subsidiaries, especially from a strategic perspective. The strategic management of the parent company deals with fundamental issues.
