Intrapreneuring

LiT spaces that take action. Why would anyone choose to become an intrapreneur when they could just as easily become an entrepreneur? I first asked myself this question in 1978 at a seminar in Bob Schwartz's School for Entrepreneurs in Tarrytown, New York. Of the four major opportunities for entrepreneurs that Bob mentioned, one struck me as a contradiction in itself and captured my particular attention. Bob quoted his friend Norman Macrae, who had written in the London Economist in 1976: "Successful large companies should evolve into alliances of entrepreneurs." Bob believed at the time that entrepreneurs could also have tremendous opportunities within large companies if a workable model could be found for it.
