About the Work
For a long time, we successfully oriented ourselves towards the model of a knowledge society. However, in the age of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the ever-accelerating exponential development in every field, as well as the unpredictability of future world-changing innovations and challenges, mere knowledge acquisition is no longer sufficient. "The world no longer rewards people for their knowledge, but for what they can do with their knowledge," says Andreas Schleicher, the most significant coordinator for educational research worldwide and the OECD's Director for Education. He - along with nearly all prominent educational researchers and pioneers from schools to businesses - calls for the next developmental stage: a competency society. "If we want to stay one step ahead of technological progress, we must reflect on and further develop our unique human traits." Because knowledge is already largely digitalized and automatable today, whereas competencies differentiate us from machines, connect us, and create value.
