From unity to difference
German, 1991Product details
Irene Fast develops a theory of gender identity development that claims validity for both genders while explicitly considering the differing conditions under which boys and girls form their gender identities. The relevant theoretical conceptualizations of Freud are reassessed and partially reformulated. In her argumentation, the author relies on recent psychoanalytic insights into female development (Horney, Stoller, Chasseguet-Smirgel), but also significantly on key postulates of cognitive developmental psychology (Piaget, Kohlberg).
