Product details
This work aims to explore how Simon Peter and the disciple whom Jesus loved relate to Jesus and to each other throughout the Gospel of John. There is a wealth of literature on the two disciples. However, there has not yet been a study that illustrates the close relational dynamics between Simon Peter and the other disciple in relation to Jesus and to one another. Common views suggest that there is rivalry or competition between Simon Peter and the other disciple, or that one embodies the office in the church while the other represents charisma. These views are critically examined and questioned. P. Scheiring concludes that the two disciples complement each other in their different roles and that they even understand themselves as friends.
