An explosive discovery in the attic: many years after the death of his parents, Joachim Krause finds more than a thousand letters they wrote between 1933 and 1945, as well as several diaries. As if putting together a puzzle, the texts gradually reveal their thoughts, lives and actions at the time. The young people seek orientation, and they argue - about National Socialism and the Jews, about the meaning of war and death, about sexual morality and questions of faith. The mother proves to be a convinced National Socialist, the father, on the other hand, keeps a critical distance to the völkisch ideology. Their letters become authentic testimonies of contemporary history. "Such unadorned voices from the past allow us to understand what kind of world the present one comes from.
