Freiburger Orgelbuch 2

The Freiburg Organ Book 2 is primarily aimed at amateur organists seeking challenging pieces with clear liturgical suitability. All liturgical situations are considered: festive processions, music for the preparation of the gifts and communion, meditative organ music, and choral-based pieces for the festive seasons of the church year. In addition to a wide range of German and Austrian organ music, selected works by French, English, Spanish, Italian, and American composers provide additional highlights. The organization by organ landscapes reflects the international orientation. Each piece is accompanied by brief comments addressing the composer and registration questions. The selection offers a great stylistic variety, from toccatas to romantic character pieces and Vesper Voluntaries. The simple to medium difficulty level will be particularly welcomed by amateur organists. However, experienced organists will also find some previously little-known treasures of organ music in this edition. With its breadth, the Freiburg Organ Book 2 will also serve as an important compendium for organ teaching. Selected works are available on a CD, exemplarily recorded on newly built as well as historical instruments from the Archdiocese of Freiburg in the Lake Constance area and the region around Karlsruhe.
