Frauenbilder in Schwarz

The culture of Goths, graveyard enthusiasts, and dark romantics is characterized by a number of prominent women and their portrayal of various female images. This work examines these female images and their symbolism and foundations in society, visual arts, and literature. It presents women who have significantly influenced the scene through their artistry and style. Some of these styles are explored in terms of fashion history and symbolism. Additionally, it questions whether melancholy has two genders and whether optical androgyny necessarily leads to a change in role stereotypes. Finally, women from the scene share their experiences, discussing their development, influences, and how, if at all, female images and self-images are transferred in everyday life and within the scene.
