In 2020, it marked the 50th anniversary of the end of the ban on women playing football in organized club and association structures - the German Football Association and the French Football Federation lifted it in 1970. However, even after that, the hurdles remained high in football practice to carve out space and respect and to ensure that football also becomes a domain for women. For Germany, France, and other European countries, the contributors to this volume illuminate the rocky path of women's football in the decades before and after 1970 and connect the development trends back to central societal transformation processes of the time.
