Franz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, to Jewish parents in Prague. After studying law, which he completed with a doctorate in 1906, Kafka joined the Workers' Accident Insurance Institute in 1908, where he remained an official until his early retirement in 1922. In late summer 1917, Franz Kafka suffered a hemorrhage; it was the onset of tuberculosis, from which he died on June 3, 1924, at not yet 41 years old.
