Don't despair - ask Ploberger!
"23 is enough!" said organic gardener Karl Ploberger a few months ago, not wanting to write another book. But for him, too, it's true: never say never. And so the 24th edition follows - and again full of valuable tips. The occasion for the new book was the countless gardening questions that have reached the author over the past ten years. "I receive between 20 and 30 questions a day via my homepage, all of which I answer myself," explains the enthusiastic garden lover Ploberger. For him, his electronic question mailbox is a "problem barometer". "Before others even realise that there is a new problem, I can already tell from the questions," says Ploberger, who, for example, spotted the appearance of the box borer in our latitudes even before there was any talk of it in professional circles. And so the first part of the book deals with unwanted garden guests such as the cherry vinegar fly, which is becoming more and more annoying because it nibbles not only cherries but also raspberries, blackberries and grapes. Of course, the everyday "old" worries are not missing either: for example, how to really beat the drought and water properly, or which plants are particularly suitable for one location or another.
The second part of the book deals with the so-called "gardening errors". There are numerous rumours that persist even though they are false. For example, the often-read tip that you should bend the leaves of kitchen onions in midsummer so that the plants mature and grow larger. Or that it is better to water a little every day when it is very hot: "Just the opposite is correct," explains Ploberger.
