The way of life of people in old, imperial, and royal Austria is reflected with intense clarity in Arthur Schnitzler's work. "Already yesterday blurs, and everything that happened a few days ago takes on the character of an unclear dream," he describes it in the story 'Blumen'. This perspective on things and experiences shapes their behavior, their indifference towards others, their self-love. However, the quick forgetting of details does not prevent reflection on what remains as a shadowy memory, especially when it is kept alive by recurring details - flowers here, another man at the grave of his own wife there. There are enough themes for time- and society-critical storytelling - especially regarding the misconduct of these people, who, stemming from such a way of life, do not shy away from judging others who are conscientious.
