When Villa Jacob was built by Johann Christoph Kunkler in 1874/1875, it was a manifestation of joy in a city where the spirit of new beginnings was palpable at the end of the 19th century. From 1933, the property was used by the Brothers of Mercy as a nursing home. Following the spectacular relocation in 2017, Villa Jacob now stands for a dignified farewell: as a hospice, it serves as the final home for the seriously ill and dying. However, this book is not only about the eventful history of the building. It also provides space for engaging with the great themes of this world: life and death.
