Max Scheler's Magnum Opus from 1913/16 can be regarded as the most thorough and comprehensive design of an ethics oriented towards the concept of the person and based on the objectivity of values. Against the backdrop of Husserl's phenomenology and with a critically distanced appreciation of Kantian philosophy, Scheler develops the foundations of practical philosophy by taking the richness of human reality in all its facets seriously, while simultaneously making it understandable against the backdrop of a material value apriori.
