The book provides the theoretical foundations of reading and writing in its first part. Both the normal process and the potential disruptions in literacy acquisition are explained in detail and systematically organized theoretically. This clear structuring then serves in subsequent chapters for the analysis of specific disorders such as dyslexia and the discussion of various causal models. In the second part of the book, support and training programs are presented. From the abundance of support materials, only those methods and strategies are selected for which empirical studies have demonstrated effectiveness.
