In a personal crisis, aspiring historian Per immerses himself in the exploration of his grandfather Friedrich's past. However, it is only when he places Friedrich alongside his spiritual brother Martin that he gains a true picture of the glory and decline of his family. In the Nazi grandfather, who has always remained foreign to him, he discovers a rebellious young man who is much closer to us than we would like to admit. His love, however, is for great-uncle Martin. "Flut und Boden" is a German family story from the 20th century, but above all, it is an outstanding literary debut.
