Product details
The Flora indicativa comprises in tabular form the ecological and biological properties of 5,500 plant species and almost 1,000 aggregates of closely related species from Switzerland and the Alpine region. The work is aimed at professional and amateur botanists who want to learn more about individual plant species, their ecological needs, and biological properties. Public and private nature and environmental protection agencies use the available data as a basis for documenting the ecological occurrence of various plant species. The Flora indicativa thus makes a significant contribution to the preservation of biodiversity. It can also serve as an introduction to geobotany, the study of the relationship between plants and their environment. The Flora indicativa is an inexhaustible source of information, taking into account not only existing literature but also the latest research results. It was created as a unique joint effort of 13 botany experts and leading Swiss institutions, including ETHZ (Institute for Integrative Biology, Rübel Foundation), WSL, Birmensdorf, Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de Genève, and the Universities of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich. The Flora indicativa includes ecological and biological traits of 5,500 plant species and nearly 1,000 aggregates of closely related species from Switzerland and the surrounding areas, as well as the entire Alps. The characteristics of each species are presented in tabular form. The work is directed towards professional and amateur botanists eager to learn more about species and their ecology and biology. The presented data will enable nature conservation agencies and environmental institutions to document various plant species. In conclusion, through this quantification of plant life in Central Europe, the Flora indicativa makes a significant contribution to the preservation of plant diversity. Additionally, the book serves as a practical guide for planning.
