Metacognition - self-directed learning - is becoming increasingly important in modern education. With the exercise controls provided here for the training card 'Fixating Mental Calculation', we aim to demonstrate a way to successfully implement this goal with minimal effort. The weekly mental calculation training sessions are completed in individual portions during freely chosen working time (homework, weekly plan, independent work). The children independently select the flashcards they want to solve. With the exercise controls provided here, the children can make this selection more purposefully and thus more successfully. As entry or interim tests, the tasks are completed according to each series. Each task indicates which card from the corresponding training card by Armin Kuratle, 'Fixating Mental Calculation', contains the relevant exercises. Once the exercise control is completed and corrected, the error list automatically generates the planning for the next training session. However, the exercise controls can also be used independently of the training card. Each exercise control is available in three series as photocopy templates. This allows the children to freely use two controls in class. The third control can be used as a learning objective assessment by the teacher or as additional practice material. The teacher's workload is manageable with these materials, as it mainly involves providing the materials, checking student work, and correcting the learning objective assessments. Once prepared, the concept 'Fixating Mental Calculation' supports the class throughout the entire middle school period.
