File knowledge

Michael Hochedlinger's introduction to the "Doctrine of Documents and Records of the Modern Age" (often referred to as "file science") provides prospective archivists and historians working in close proximity to sources with the knowledge and skills they need for the correct naming, determination and interpretation of modern documents, file documents and business books and for the use of modern official registries in archives. The volume contains an introduction to the history of science, definitions of terms, an overview of the subject ("genetic records", "analytical records", "systematic records", filing systems at public authorities), a catalogue of criteria for the identification of records and a CD-ROM with examples of exercises.
