Product details
The theory of strength is an essential foundation for constructive fields such as steel construction, timber construction, reinforced concrete construction, masonry construction, structural glass construction, and foundation engineering. This textbook conveys the theory of strength and its fundamental relationships through thorough preparation of the theoretical foundations in many steps. Initially, the basic concepts of the theory of strength and the most important mechanical relationships are explained. Chapter 2 deals with the determination of cross-sectional values of rod-shaped components. The following three chapters address the fundamental types of loading for rods, namely bending with and without axial force, shear force, and torsion. Methods for stress calculation are presented, and the corresponding load-bearing behavior of rods with different cross-sections is explained. The stability of rod-shaped components is addressed in Chapter 6, where various stability phenomena are described, and the determination of internal forces in the deformed system is introduced. Chapter 7 additionally covers special problems of the theory of strength. Terms such as "gaping joint," principal stresses, stress states, equivalent stress, or Mohr's circle of stress and strength hypotheses are explained in detail. Many illustrative graphics and numerous application examples contribute to understanding. Each chapter includes numerous practical exercises designed to encourage students to work independently and deepen their understanding of the material. Corresponding solution methods are presented at the end of the textbook. For the fourth edition, the well-established textbook has been thoroughly updated.
