Ferdinand von Saar: Kostenitz Castle

Jahrhundert, 24 sources in the bibliography, language: German, abstract: "Schloss Kostenitz" is considered to be perhaps Ferdinand von Saar's most important novella. This masterpiece of bourgeois realism demonstrates all the characteristics of the novella, as they are recorded in works on the theory of the novella. The novella is analysed in terms of various relevant parameters such as thing-symbol, unheard-of incident, turning point, and so on. Further chapters deal with Saar as a literary historiographer and stylist, with psyche and illness, ideal landscapes and with art as sublimation.
