Fehmarn travel guide
Travel differently and discover something special: With the latest tips from the Michael Müller travel guides, you can design your trip individually, sustainably and safely.
The island of Fehmarn is an ideal destination for journeys of discovery on your doorstep. It is "refreshingly normal", yet "amazingly varied". So writes our author Dieter Katz in the fifth edition of the 2016 ITB BookAward-winning travel guide "Fehmarn." On 216 pages with 127 color photos, he shows you the full splendor of the diverse and colorful third largest German Baltic Sea island.
Eleven maps and plans including an overview map make the island your second home. More than 20 beaches as well as five lighthouses are described in detail. Ecological, regional and sustainable farms are marked. Our author has researched and tried out everything for you on site.
Numerous interspersed short essays provide interesting background information. Dieter Katz's insider tips reveal particularly worthwhile destinations, such as accommodations or restaurants that are also frequented by locals. Tried and tested tips and useful practical travel advice round off the travel guide "Fehmarn".
Fehmarn at a glance
The varied coastline fascinates with the contrast of steep coasts with flat shores, where fine sandy beaches alternate with stony and rough beaches. Burg is the "island metropolis": a pleasant small town with inviting stores and restaurants around the historic market square. It includes the lively port of Burgstaaken and the fine-sand, wide southern beach on the offshore peninsula of Burgtiefe.
44 farming villages, some of them very small, are spread across the island. Orth and Lemkenhafen are the only harbor villages, the rest are somewhat sheltered in the hinterland. Each village offers numerous vacation accommodations.
