Fecit in Tyroli: Matthias Alban

Hannes Obermair, born in 1961 in Bolzano. He studied history, German studies, and philosophy at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna (Dr. phil.). He has been a member of the editorial team of the journal "Geschichte und Region/Storia e regione" since 1992 and served as the chairman of the associated association from 2014 to 2016. From 2002 to 2017, he was a research associate at the Bolzano City Archive, becoming its director in 2009. Since 2019, he has been a Senior Researcher at the European Academy of Bolzano and has been a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in London since 2020. He has held teaching positions at the universities of Innsbruck, Trento, Kobe, and Warwick. His research focuses on urban and regional history, medieval studies, the history of literacy and editions, the history of fascism, historiography, cultures of memory, and public history. He has published numerous works, including "Bozen Süd - Bolzano Nord," 2 volumes (2005-2008), "A Land on a Threshold" (2017), "Die Zeit dazwischen. Südtirol 1918-1922" (2020), and "Grossdeutschland ruft!" (2021). At Edition Raetia, he contributed to "Universitas Est," Volumes I and II (2008) and "Kafka in Meran" (2020). He is a lecturer in music history and curator of the musical instrument collection at the Conservatory of Naples. He is a Matthias-Alban researcher in Bolzano, a master violin maker, and an expert in historical string instruments in Frankfurt am Main. He is also a cellist and director of the ensemble Cordia, and a lecturer at the Conservatory in Verona.
