The book deals with the basics of animal husbandry and animal hygiene on farms. The aim of the book is to impart basic knowledge on the requirements and standards for keeping cattle, pigs, sheep and poultry. The different types of husbandry for cattle (dairy cattle, calves, suckler cows, beef cattle), pigs (pregnant and piglet bearing sows, rearing piglets, fattening pigs), sheep and poultry are presented compactly. Aspects of animal welfare, animal behaviour and the resulting requirements of the animals with regard to their husbandry environment are given wide consideration. It describes the effects of environmental factors (gases, dust, stable climate) on the health and performance of farm animals and explains the implementation of important hygiene measures such as cleaning and disinfection, rodent and insect control.
