Product details

The pavilion-capable Dadant-Alberti beehive, with special consideration for queen breeding by the American G. M. Doolittle. Charles Dadant (1817-1902) was a French beekeeper and is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern beekeeping in the USA. He used the Quinby frame with comb dimensions (without ears) of 480 × 285 mm. Together with his youngest son, he began selling honey and beeswax across the Mississippi. Through his own experiments, he was able to improve the existing Langstroth hive and spread it worldwide under the name 'Dadant hive.' It remains the most widely used hive type in the world today. His son Pierre Camil Dadant modified the Quinby-Dadant frame around 1920 by shortening the top bar to the length of the Langstroth frame. This modified Dadant frame never gained traction in America and is now primarily used in German-speaking regions in connection with the brood-friendly Buckfast bee bred by Brother Adam. This book is illustrated with approximately 90 black-and-white images. It is a reprint of the second original edition from 1902.
