Bee venom, medically known as apitoxin, is the venom of honeybees, a mixture of various secretions. It is injected into the opponent through a stinger as an insect bite. A honeybee can inject about 0.1 mg of venom. Bee venom is acidic (pH 4.5-5.5) and has a yellowish-opalescent color. The venom is also harvested for medical purposes using wire current traps. Recently, apitoxin has gained prominence in the anti-aging industry as a natural alternative to Botox. In this application, apitoxin supports the production of the main protein collagen VII, which promotes the supportive function of the skin and thus helps counteract wrinkle formation.
